BBC Bitesize Careers Roadshow: A Memorable Day of Inspiration
On Friday 11th October 2024, Hilbre High School had the privilege of hosting the BBC Bitesize Careers Roadshow. This highly anticipated event brought together local professionals to share their career journeys and insights with our students, making Hilbre one of the few schools selected for this prestigious opportunity. It was an inspirational day filled with guidance and interaction, providing invaluable exposure to the world of work.
Held in the Sports Hall, the event spanned the entire day with tailored sessions for Year 8 through Year 11. Each session featured an engaging panel-style discussion, led by BBC Radio 1 presenter James Cusack, who kept the energy high and the conversation flowing.
Our panelists were nothing short of extraordinary:
- Natalie Denny, author and Director of Skywriters Ltd, shared her experiences of storytelling and the importance of creativity in her career.
- Morgan Brett, a University Technician at the University of Liverpool, highlighted the significance of technical skills and education in STEM-related fields.
- Jermaine Foster, social media producer and presenter at BBC Radio Merseyside, captivated students with insights into the media industry and the evolving role of social media in careers.
Students from each year group had the opportunity to participate, with sixth formers also welcome to attend. The sessions were interactive, allowing students to ask questions directly to the panel, covering topics such as essential soft skills, relevant qualifications, and the importance of work experience.
This event truly showcased the importance of connecting education with real-world careers, inspiring our students to think about their futures and the pathways available to them. We extend our thanks to the BBC, our fantastic guest speakers, and the staff who helped make the day such a success.
