Hilbre High School

Mathematics

Students in KS3 and KS4 follow the White Rose Maths scheme of work which builds upon students’ successes at primary school and pushes them to succeed at the end of Year 11.

We use the principles of Teaching for Mastery throughout out curriculum which takes elements of educational research and applies them to the classroom. Below is a diagram which demonstrates the key ‘Big Ideas’ for Teaching for Mastery.

Students across KS3 and KS4 are taught in sets which allows students to access the Maths curriculum at an appropriate level. Our curriculum is ambitious and all students are taught the same topic blocks throughout their time at Hilbre.

Students are assessed half termly to ensure that they are progressing successfully. In years 10 and 11, students continue to be taught in ability sets all of which follow an AQA GCSE syllabus. At the end of the GCSE course, all students will take an examination at either Foundation or Higher tier depending on their attainment throughout the course.

In the Sixth Form, we offer further study through Edexcel A level Maths and Level 3 Core Maths.
