Music

The Music Department is housed in a music suite with technological facilities and two practice rooms.

Allowing young people to explore music in a caring and safe environment; where they can perform at their very best is extremely important to us in our department.  Building positive relationships, mutual respect and exploring music in a way that interests and inspires is key to our approach.

KS3 students have music for one hour per week where we explore music as practically as possible incorporating experiences of Singing, Keyboards, Drums, Ukulele’s, Guitar and Bass Guitar during KS3 lessons. Students also develop their listening skills and begin to analyse music using appropriate vocabulary.

Y10 and 11 students follow the Btec Level 1 and 2 Music Practice syllabus. Take up for Music is high and results are frequently excellent.  Students are able to realise their compositional ideas on our digital recording equipment and music specific computers. We currently utilise Musescore, Cubase and Soundtrap software.

At KS5 we currently offer the RSL Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma for Music Practitioners.  Our curriculum content is linked to the professional world of music with tasks mimicking various Music job roles from Session musician to Music Producer.  This is a largely practical course which actively enables students to improve their musicianship, reflect on work in a meaningful way, develop strategies for improvement, team-work, organisation and their understanding of many roles in the music industry.
